Foreigners who have the good intentions of touring the country have nothing to worry about when it comes to availability of transportation and its cost. Here are the main means of transportation in Ghana:

🚗 1. Road Transport (Most Common)

• Taxis: Available in cities and towns. Can be shared or private.

• Trotros: Minibuses or vans used for shared public transport—cheap and popular.

• Buses: Larger intercity buses like VIP, STC, and VVIP run between major cities.

• Private Cars & Ride-hailing: Services like Bolt, Yango, and Uber operate in Accra, Kumasi, and other big cities.

• Motorbikes (“Okada”): Common in some areas, especially rural or traffic-prone regions.

🚆 2. Rail Transport

• Limited but gradually being improved.

• Routes connect Accra, Tema, and parts of the Ashanti Region (e.g., Kumasi).

• Mostly used for freight, but some passenger services exist.

• Domestic flights are available between major cities like Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, and Tamale.

• Kotoka International Airport (Accra) is the main international airport. Usually welcomes you in its native language, ”Obaake”

🚢 4. Water Transport

• Ferries and boats operate on Lake Volta.

• Used in regions like the Volta, Oti, and Northern regions.

• Important for moving goods and people in remote areas.
